Are your non spam incoming emails being blocked? Are they incorrectly being labelled as spam? Do not panic as it is (most) likely not your fault.
In the battle against spam, unfortunately a lot of times the innocents are on the losing end. Due to the shared environment of web hosting, a lot of domain names and email servers are transmitted through the same IP or internet addresses. This lowers down the cost of web hosting to a more affordable prices for businesses. However, when the IP ends up in spam filters or black lists such as those hosted by Spamhaus, all the domain names or websites under it will be affected.
Why not just block those emails that were caught spamming?
More often than not, spams are being sent from emails that were hacked or spoofed, due to poor security measures by the email users. Hence, mass banning all these email addresses would not be the best step to take. Besides that, spam emails are also being sent through free email services such as Gmail, Outlook or Yahoomail. Prevent yourself from falling victim to such activities by reading our articles “7 Ways To Keep Your Computer Safe” and “Best Practices to Protect Your Privacy Online“.
What should i do now since my incoming emails being blocked?
The best step you should take is to contact your web hoster (or the person in charge of it). Be ready to provide any necessary information that will help facilitate the investigate into the block issue.
If you are more of a hands-on person and you have the admin access to your web hosting account, you can try to:
- investigate the cause
- whitelist the email addresses or domain names
- enable email authentication
- request the removal of the IPs or domain names affected from the blacklists/blocklists/filter list
